The mythology of the twelve signs of western astrology — part.2

Cancer season starts the day of summer solstice, which usually comes on the 21st or 22nd of June.

 In the Northern hemisphere, the Sun reaches its highest position in the sky and daytime becomes the longest in the year.

As I showed in the previous article, Zeus, the god of the highest position in Greek mythology, has a lot of children born from human women.

Heracles was one of them, and Zeus made a plan for his wife goddess Hera to breastfeed Heracles while she was asleep, because Zeus would like to give him the power of a god. 　

Heracles sucked Hera's breast so strongly, even though he was a baby, that she awoke.

Hera was surprised and shook him off, the Milky Way was created by her breastmilk spreading into the night sky.



She got angry and continued to hate him forever.


Heracles had grown to be the strongest hero in Greece, and started the adventures that are called the Twelve Labours of Heracles.

The models of Cancer and Leo are concerned with these episodes.

When Heracles slayed the nine-headed snake monster, Hydra, Hera ordered Cancer, the crab monster, to help Hydra. 

Heracles trampled him easily. Hera made him to be the constellation because she was sorry for him.


It is said Cancer people are obedient, kind and caring when they feel empathy, but they charge their lives to fight when they protect something important to them.


Heracles also fought with Nemean lion that was the model of Leo, and after killing him, Heracles made excellent weapons for him from his carcass.

That’s why the lion became the symbol of the strongest animal, and Zeus made Leo the constellation.

Leo season comes after Cancer season is over, and it starts on July 23rd.   

Leo people tend to want to be on the top in their groups or communities because lions are called the king of beasts.

Conversely, they are such a proud people that they don't like to be ordered.

If they feel frustration at their companies or organization, they probably should start their own business.


After Leo season, Virgo season begins on the 23rd or 24th of August.

According to one story, the models of Virgo and Libra are goddess Astraea and her scale of justice, though there are various theories about them.

Movie Review of The Danish Girl

 I watched the movie The Danish Girl , which is based on the biography of the first person who had undergone sex reassignment surgery in the world.  At the beginning of the 20th century, there was a couple of painters, Mr and Mrs Wegener in Copenhagen, Denmark. Einar Wegener was good at landscapes, and gaining fame as one of most talented artists in Denmark, but his wife, Gerda, didn’t achieve success behind Einar. One day, Gerda asked Einar to be the foot model in place of the female model because she didn’t come on time. When Einar wore lady’s stockings and shoes, and put the dress on his chest, he felt someone awaken inside himself. Gerda also proposed him to pretend to be a woman and join a party together.
