Movie review of The Godfather
I watched the American movie series The Godfather over the New Year holiday. The series is based on a popular novel, and consists of three parts. All three movies were directed by Francis Ford Coppola. PartⅠ and Ⅱ got Academy Awards in many categories. They describe the history of a family, who are Italian-American Mafia. PartⅠwas released in 1972. The main character of this drama, Michael, was played by Al Pacino. Michael hated his family’s crime, and joined the Marines in WWII to escape from their illegal business. However, his father Vito, who is the head of the Corleone crime family, was attacked by his enemy, and his elder brother Sonny was betrayed and killed. As Michael understood the crisis of his family, he decided to succeed the Corleone family. The drama of PartⅡ described why Vito became the don, the head of the crime family. ‘Don’ is an honorific title in Southern Europe, including Italy. Robert De Niro acted as young Vito.
